VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is, in essence, a remote display system which allows you to view a computing `desktop' environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine architectures.
Initial setup intruction
First, make sure a SSH Server in already installed in the system.
Install VNC4Server on Debian-7 Wheezy
1. To install VNC4Server, command is
#apt-get install -y vnc4server
2. To set password for a vnc user, "su" to the user and type "password"
edi@cache:~$ vncpassword (you'll be prompted to enter a passwd for this user)
3. To start VNC Server
edi@cache:~$ vncserver :1
4. To Stop VNC Server
edi@cache:~$ vncserver -kill :1
5. Note: Edit and add the following to .vnc/xstartup
edi@cache:~$ nano .vnc/xstartup
#add the line bellow
exec gnome-session &
6. Now, start VNC with a display number with a screen resolution setting
edi@cache:~$ vncserver :1 -geometry 800x600 -depth 24
Test in client
1. Install VNC viewer on client computer next. Download from the site below to install. http://www.realvnc.com/download/
Start VNC viewer after installing. Then following scrren is shown. Input [(Server's hostname or IP address):(display number)] like following example.
2. Password is required. Input VNC password you set in the section
3. Just Connected
